The Ecrins National Park border is just south of the authentic village of La Grave and the Romanche River cutting through the valley floor, divides the steep, rugged north face of La Meije from the more open south-facing meadows with hamlets of old stone houses built by the farmers of old.

The view from the Bikers Lodge directly onto the north face of the majestic glaciated peak of La Meije (3983 m) is truly exhilarating. When biking through the traditional mountain villages Les Hieres, Ventelon, Les Terrasses and Chazelet to climb the trails that criss-cross the Alpine meadows above, your eyes will be drawn towards the rugged mountains and glaciers of the Ecrins National Park. Wherever you go, they contrast beautifully with the Alpine flowers, lush green grass and low stone built houses on the south facing slopes of the valley.

It is possible to bike up from La Grave to the hamlets to ride gravel roads as well as double and single track trails. The trails offer a limitless variety from tame to steeper terrain. On some routes you can stop for a lunch break on the way, on others you should take a packed lunch.
